Job Description and Responsibilities

-Intern works under the supervision of the Project Manager and works closely with the Project Specialist.

-The intern usually works on one major project throughout the summer and assists with similar projects and daily tasks as needed.

-The position is full time (40 hours per week) and involves both office and field work (60 % office, 40% field).

-The Woodlands Parks and Recreation Department maintains over 80 parks and more than 100 miles of pathways for the 68,000 residents of The Woodlands – and the area is still growing!

-Available facilities include playgrounds, pools, sports fields, stocked fishing ponds, performance stage, recreation center and a skate park. Planned facilities include a BMX track, dog park and fully accessible playground.

Requirements & Qualifications

-Junior or senior at a four-year school majoring in Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences or a related field.

-Knowledge and understanding of a variety of recreational activities and events that could take place throughout the summer.

-Proficient organizational, writing, and oral communication skills.

-Good interpersonal skills so that I could communicate well with employees and local residents.

-Have ability to learn new software programs.

Benefits & Opportunities

I worked a minimum of 40 hour work weeks, $10.00 an hour!

Concert in The Park Summer Series which helped me develop my public speaking skills.

Worked as a Day Camp Counselor for a week; this was a great opportunity to get away from the

office and be a kid again!

Achievements

I think that I have had many achievements interning with The Community Association of The Woodlands. This internship has helped me to grasp a better understanding of how City Recreation programs work. It has also helped me to begin making the transformation from a student to a professional.
