Internship Position
Job Description & Duties: My intern position at Saltfork Hunts is a hunting guide. I am responsible for helping hunters in every form possible, including locating stands, retrieving deer, and sharing hunting tips and stories with guests. It is also a guide’s job to maintain and fill feeders. All harvested deer are retrieved by the guides. This is done in order to keep the hunters from having accidents on ATV's or getting lost retrieving deer. After the animal is cleaned it is the guide’s responsibility to make sure the deer is taken to the meat locker. Guides also scout stands when they aren’t helping hunters. This allows them to tell the hunters what deer are moving through the area and allows the guide to recommend better stands for the hunters to hunt.
Requirements
A guide needs to know the laws in order to convey them to out-of-state hunters; have an in-depth knowledge of hunting and the land; and be able to communicate effectively with guests and co-workers.
Benefits and Opportunities:
The internship position pays nothing, but a fulltime guide recieves a thousand dollars a week. The experience recieved at a hunting outfitter of this size will benefit you greatly if you are looking at a career in outdoor recreation.
