Organization Overview

Reunion Resort and Club is a one of a kind, 2,300 acre resort and club just south of Orlando. Reunion is 10 minutes away from Walt Disney World and an hour away from each beautiful Florida coast. Reunion has villas, condos, and houses of all sizes to rent or own on property. The club has members, which include people that live in the community, visit, or just own property. These guests vacation side by side with guests that stay at Reunion like a resort. Recreation at Reunion includes 3 professionally designed golf courses, a driving range, a spa, tennis facilities and programs, an equestrian canter, a pool pavilion (with a workout room and kid’s club activity room), and a water park (with a slide, lazy river, and kiddie area). Activities are programmed daily at the water park and pool pavilion. The mission statement for Reunion Resort and Club is as follows: “To consistently deliver to our members and guests an exceptional hospitality experience and gracious club lifestyle in an unpretentious, sincere and friendly manner.”


Job Description:

A Recreation coordinator intern at Reunion Resort and Club of Orlando is responsible for planning and executing activities for families and children, events, and scheduling of employees. Interns will be expected to operate the water park gate entrance, run an activity room, activity tent, and bike room on a daily basis as well as other intern projects.


Requirements and Qualifications:

The individual should possess several qualities in order to be considered for the Reunion Resort and Club Recreation Coordinator Internship. The individual must posses at least two years of coursework in college in the field of Tourism, Recreation, or Resorts, and the individual must by outgoing, have an interest in working with children, be energetic, and be able to handle many tasks at once that may be physical labor. The applicant must be capable of planning and executing several different projects including daily activity planning and large family and children’s event planning.

Benefits to working at Reunion Resort and Club of Orlando include 40 hours a week of $10/hour pay. Housing was provided for us nearby our resort for $150 deducted out of each paycheck. Other benefits to working at this resort include:

- Planning and implementing daily hourly activities for children’s Kid’s Krew

- Planning and implementing large events for families and children, such as Fourth of July weekend, Memorial Day, and other events

- Learning to work well with a team of interns and other recreation coordinators

- Learning about and observing other departments, such as Food and Beverage, Aquatics, Golf, Spa, and others




Achievements:

Among many things, achievements that I accomplished during my internship at Reunion Resort and Club consisted of assignments that were specifically given by my manager to the interns to work on as a team and my own internship project that I planned and wrote on my own. As a team, the interns programmed and implemented a Fourth of July carnival, a fun run, a build your own boat regatta, a golf cart parade, started up a bike room and bike program, and hourly activities at two locations for the entire month of July. My personal intern project included a SWOT analysis of the entire activities department along with solutions and recommendations and a PowerPoint presentation which I presented to management. I also got the chance to increase my knowledge of hospitality and gain more experience working with amazing kids!
