Intern Responsibilities

Job Description: This is a work experience for students seeking an education in the hospitality industry. Interns will often work in area of an assigned department and will develop a full understanding of the knowledge and skills for that area. A Front Office Agent is responsible for checking guests in and out of the hotel and providing guests with hotel information. The position will also involve answering phones, handling cash, posting charges to guest bills, running various reports that are related to guest reservations, and making sure the guest is satisfied in every way.

Qualification: This person must have good organization and communication skills. They must exemplify excellent guest service abilities, be able to move at a fast pace and adapt to various types of work environments.

Benefits: This position pays $9.00/hr and is a full time position. It does not include housing, the student is fully responsible for housing and transportation. If the student plans on being apart of the organization longer than 90 days then they have full access to Hyatt Health Plan. Associates also get various discounts with a variety of vendors such as Ford, Avis Rent-A-Car, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Jos. A. Banks, Sprint, Nextel, T-Mobile HotSpot, Dell, Abt Electronics and then 25% off at the Lost Pines outlets. All Hyatt employees are eligible for discounts at other Hyatt’s and they are also able to get family and friend discounts under an employee rate depending on the occupancy and location of the desired Hyatt property. After this experience, if the student is interested in a management position with Hyatt then they have an opportunity to join the Hyatt CMT program upon graduation. This program will help them move quickly within the organization.

Achievements: I learned several things while working for Hyatt. There are several types of computer programs that an employee has to familiarize themselves with to be able to fully go through the check in and check out process with a guest. I had to learn in depth how to use the Property Management System (PMS), Reserve, SAFLOK, and how to quickly and efficiently navigate through our gold passport website. Learning the layout of the property is essential and I had to know exactly where everything was including the rooms in order to properly direct the guest. Once I started working in the control room I had to learn proper phone etiquette as well. This was a great opportunity and I learned exactly how a resort this size operates. This internship gives the student a different perspective on the hospitality industry that our degree could not teach us. It was all about the experience.
