Organization Overview

Mission of Organization: The mission of Fripp Island Resort is to provide its residents and guests with an exceptional and consistent private/residential resort experience by providing efficient, courteous service at its ammenities, and by delivering safe, clean, well-equipped and comfortable accomodations.


Job Description and Requirements

As the Recreation Intern for the Spring season at Fripp Island Resort, I had the following responsibilities:

- Plan, organize and implement Camp Fripp, and other social programs offered through the Recreation Department. This involves creating themes, activities and craft ideas and making sure any and all items needed are accessible.

- Assist in organizing and implementing Easter programs, such as Easter basket deliveries and an Easter egg hunt, and any other holiday activities offered through the Recreation Department.

- Basic office duties: answering phone calls, helping guests, handling monetary transactions, keeping the facilties clean and organized, etc.

- Assist the Director and Assistant Director of Recreation in any daily tasks.

Recreation Interns must be CPR certified and the internship must be for college credit. Experience with children, recreation, hospitality, or resorts is preferred.

While compensation differs within each department on Fripp Island, as the Recreation Intern I received a stipend of $375.00 every two weeks. Housing was provided, with $50.00 deducted each pay period for rent, utilities, water, cable and local telephone expenses.

Achievements

My internship at Fripp Island provided me with a great opportunity to further my knowledge of the resort atmosphere, while being able to have creative input to the Recreation Department's programs. Having fun with kids during Camp Fripp was an additional bonus to my awesome and valuable experience!

Planning and implementing the Easter activities taught me a lot about following a business budget, while using my creativity to plan functions that guests will enjoy and want to return to Fripp Island for.
