Facts About The Woodlands

-The Woodlands is located appoximately 25 miles north of Houston

-The Woodlands Parks and Recreation Department maintains over 80 parks and more than 100 miles of pathways for the 68,000 residents of the Woodlands

-Available facilites include playgrounds, pools, sports fields, stocked fishing ponds, performace stage, recreation center and wheel friendly areas.


Job Description

SUMMER INTERNSHIPS ($10.00/hr). Positions available in the Planning and Recreation departments of Community Associations of The Woodlands. Student should be working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in the Recreation, Parks and Tourism or related field.


Duties of Intern/Required Skills:

-Intern works under the supervision of the Project Manager and works closely with the Project Specialist.

-The intern usually works on one major project throughout the summer and assists with similar projects and daily tasks as needed.

-The position is full time (40 hours per week) and involves both office and field work (60 % office, 40% field).

-Computer experience is required - MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook. Good organizational skills are a must.

-Knowledge of park planning principles is helpful. Class work in planning, recreation administration, or landscape architecture would be a good foundation for this internship.

-Projects may include inventorying parks, compiling quarterly reports, maintaining databases, conducting surveys of The Woodlands residents, researching grants, etc.

Benefits and Opportunities:

-I was able to participate in National Night Out as a Team Leader for Alden Bridge Park!!!!

-I worked 40 hours a week at 10 dollars an hour

-I got the amazing opportunity to spend two weeks at summer camp and attend their banquet!!!!!!

-I gave the intermission announcements at Concert in the Park!


Achievements:

-I wrote an article that will be published in the Community Magazine!!

-I also constructed several flyers that were posted around the community for the Dive-In Movie!

-I created a postcard flyer for the launch of the helmet safety program. This consisted of helmet saftey tips for biking, skate-boarding, rollerblading, and scooters.

-I feel I am much more experienced in Publisher and Outlook
