City of Bryan Parks and Recreation Department



Organization Overview:

The Bryan Parks and Recreation Department was founded in 1956 and maintains 43 park properties made up pf nearly 750 acres. Picnic areas, golf courses, camp grounds, and walking trails are just a few of the recreational activities offered through the department. Other facilities such as tennis courts, city pools and the Aquatic Center are also run through the department. The department serves all the citizens a Bryan with many different income levels and different living conditions.


Mission Statements: The City of Bryan: The City of Bryan is committed to providing efficient municipal services to improve the quality of life and develop a community where al citizens are proud to live.


Parks & Recreation Department: The Parks and Recreation Department strives to enhance and improve the quality of life for all of the citizens of Bryan; promote tourism; aid in public safety through juvenile crime prevention; and contribute to community aesthetics. These tasks are accomplished by providing quality parks and facilities, a highly trained professional staff, special events and wholesome and constructive recreational programming.


Internship Position:

Job Description & Duties: Indirectly responsible for the implementation of recreation programs at a community park setting for summer camp programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Assists recreation coordinator in planning and implementing recreation programs for youth

- Adheres to the policies, rules, regulations, and procedures of the City of Bryan and the Parks and Recreation division

- Performs related duties as required

- Responds regularly and promptly to work

- Mentor and be a role model to Bryan youth

- Main coordinator for the monthly event “Teen Night”


Benefits and Opportunities: One of the greatest about my internship is that I don’t perform one specific job. I get to be involved in so many different areas. Positions such as event coordinator for Teen Night, camp counselor for the Summer Parks Program, and soccer coach are some of the positions that I have held thus far.
