My responsibilities varied considerably throughout the summer, but one that stayed constant was interaction with guests. At Casa San Marcos, we place a huge emphasis on our guests. Whether it be greeting them at the door, cooking breakfast, or informing them about the area attractions; my main function was always based on the guests' wants and needs.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Greeting Guests
  • Carrying Luggage
  • Cooking Breakfast and Other Meals
  • Serving Food and Beverages
  • Cleaning Rooms
  • Grounds Maintenance
  • Running Errands
  • Giving Tours
  • Interacting With Guests

Job Description

As an intern at Casa San Marcos, there a just a few qualificatioins that need to be met prior to arriving. These requirements include:

  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • A General Knowledge of the Area
  • Housekeeping and Gardening Experience
  • Cooking Experience
  • A General Knowledge of the Spanish Language and Culture

Benefits and Opportunities

Although my internship with Casa San Marcos was not a paid position, I gained a very indepth view of the Mexican culture, the tourism industry, and how to interact with people. Also, I received free room and board, along with the same for family and friends who wished to stay while I was working.

Achievements

Overall, I learned many new things this summer. The opportunities to grow were numerous and very interesting. Throughout the summer, I was asked daily to prepare breakfasts, make beds, clean rooms, etc.; and in all of these things a few solid concepts emerged. One was the use of communication in every aspect of the business. It was, by far, the most important piece of the guest house puzzle. Also, attention to detail was significant in the general functioning and marketing of Casa San Marcos. These two skills were emphasized over and over, which engrained them into my thoughts and actions.
